About Us
Betsy Wilk Katz
The Founder of GravityDance Method
Betsy Wilk Katz serves on the board of GravityMoves.com non-profit. She is a mother of two college students. Betsy is keenly interested in applying dance / movement modalities to therapeutic treatments for youth, families, and older adults with memory challenges. Betsy is committed to incorporating these powerful tools into her services, which prioritize health and well-being.
Betsy began her movement training at a very young age, in New York City, at The School of American Ballet, and went on to study at Lesley University where she earned a Masters of Arts and Science in Dance / Movement Psychotherapy. She currently practices as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Dance Movement Therapist at a clinic with a full-time case load.
Betsy brings a deep knowledge of expressive games, and a playful counseling approach to her work with clients. In addition to applying evidence-based treatments, Betsy is informed by her Moodments’ Theory, which has evolved from rigorous observation and evaluation of the ways in which mood and movement intersect. She integrates individual assessments, movement-based explorations, and education for each client, as well as movement and mood research. Betsy works with many populations and mental health issues. She has created programming for children, teens, young adults and older adults with her own theoretical style in mind, since 2003.
Would you like to get moving in a new direction? Try some new ways to do so? I am a child, adolescent, and adult experienced dance /movement psychotherapist, with a specialization in the expressive arts modalities. We work together to explore and develop insights and awareness to embody your life with a focus on balance, resilience and attunement. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who specializes in mind-body integration, I incorporate evidence-based treatments that include Dance/Movement Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Relational Cultural Theory Therapy. I offer both cognitive and movement therapy.
I share my knowledge and practice of DMT, RCT and CBT with my clients. My unique ability to share the expressive arts with different ages stems from my life’s work teaching movement and creating unique movement prescriptions and games for individuals with a variety of challenges. I understand and teach individuals how to identify somatic symptoms.
I specialize in cognitive therapy, movement therapy and play therapy. Personalizing the experience, as therapy may look different for each individual. Our work may be short or long-term, structured, open or goal-exploring, and may include a variety of therapy techniques such as Relational therapy, Movement therapy, or Cognitive Behavioral therapy / mindfulness.
